Getting Started as a Business Owner

How do I set up a business account?

Setting up your business account is straightforward:

  • Create your free StompGear account with your business email
  • List your gear – upload photos, set prices, and add availability
  • Approve rentals – you confirm each booking request
  • Get paid – payouts via Stripe, 3 business days after return

What documents do I need to provide?

All business owners go through StompGear’s secure identity verification (powered by Persona).
In some cases, we may also request additional documents manually, such as:

  • Proof of identity (photo ID)
  • Business registration details (if applicable)
  • Proof of insurance

Stripe may also require your tax identification number (Business Number in Canada, EIN in the
U.S.) for payouts.

How long does verification take?

Most accounts are verified instantly. Some may take 1–2 business days if additional checks are
needed. You’ll get email updates throughout the process.

Each gear listing must include:

Can multiple people log in to one business account?

At this time, only one user login is supported per business account.

When are payouts sent?

Payouts are held in escrow and released 3 business days after the gear is returned. Payments are processed securely through Stripe. Learn more about payments

Who handles deposits?

StompGear securely collects and holds deposits as part of the booking process. Businesses do not need to manage deposits manually.

How are renters held responsible for damage or loss?

Every renter has a $500 security deposit held in their StompGear wallet at the time of booking. Renters are also liable for the full deductible amounts under the Protection Plan →, and StompGear securely stores their credit card details for additional charges if needed.

Do I need my own insurance?

Yes. While StompGear provides discretionary protection up to $20,000, we require that businesses maintain their own commercial insurance as outlined in our Terms of Service →.

Do I need to collect GST?

No. StompGear automatically applies GST to our 15% platform fee. You will receive invoices for tax purposes. Businesses may still need to account for GST on their own rentals — we recommend speaking with your tax advisor.

How does renter verification work?

All renters complete ID verification through Persona before booking. This reduces fraud and ensures only verified users can rent gear.

Do renters leave reviews for businesses?

Yes. After each rental, renters can review your gear and service. Verified reviews help build your credibility and attract more bookings.
